Gallery features Photographers of Vashon
July brings Photographers of Vashon (POV) into focus at Blue Heron Gallery. A group exhibition featuring 31 professional and emerging photographers, the juried group show offers varied perspectives on Island life. Exhibit co-curators, POV member Michael Elenko and Gallery Curator Janice Mallman, asked Island photographers to illustrate why they live and/or work on Vashon Island and the meaning of home. The opening, July 3, 6 to 9, will feature live jazz with Richard Person, horns, Jim Hobson, piano and George Heidorn, bass.

Psst! Has anyone told you about this year’s Vashon Allied Arts Community Quilt? Well, where have you been? It’s been paraded around town in all its glory. First at Books by the Way, it marched to Vashon Bookshop, and then to Island Quilter. The quilt has spent Saturdays with the wonderful, colorful folks at Farmers Market. First Friday, July 3, it will grace the window of the Heron’s Nest and will remain there until that busy, dizzy Strawberry Festival sweeps through the town.

Vashon rocks with World Music Festival
Come listen and dance to Brazilian Samba, acoustic dance music of Cuba and Indian pop rock at the annual all-ages VAA Music Festival, Saturday, August 9, 5 to 8 pm. Situated in Camp Burton’s outdoor amphitheater, this year’s festival will feature three hot groups, all hailing from the Seattle area. Delicious world-inspired wraps, salads desserts and beverages will be available by SheFidgets Catering. Henna body art provided by Kara Jones.
