The Blue Heron Art Center is one of the oldest community art centers in the state of Washington.  Founded in 1966, it currently serves as the hub for community cultural activity and the home base for Vashon Allied Arts.

The Blue Heron Art Center was the first King County building to receive landmark status.  It was built in 1912 by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF), who used it as a community hall and private meeting space.  VAA continues the tradition of community use by hosting an art gallery, a performance space, a classroom, and a professional dance studio within its walls.

Other properties that house VAA's programs include a painting studio, a pottery studio, the Heron's Nest craft and gift gallery and other community performance venues, including the Vashon High School Theater, Ober Park and Camp Burton outdoor amphitheater.
