VAA New Works Series 2008 brings variety
Each year Vashon Allied Arts offers Island performing artists of all disciplines the opportunity to propose new work for performance the following season. A multi-disciplinary panel meets in early fall, reviews and selects. This year’s panel included puppeteer, Bill Jarcho; songwriter/recording artist, Danny O’Keefe; actor/teacher, Lisa Breen; and pianist Jack Barbash.
Launching the series in May, UMO returns to the Blue Heron for the first time after many years to perform a weekend of eclectic new work including excerpts from "Zen Tales." In June, check out a double bill: singer/songwriters, Pat Reardon/Kim Cronin; AND Resonance, a world music group comprised of Bill Moyer, percussion, Jason Everett, bass, Ken Jacobsen, guitar, Chip Lamason, mandolin, and Carolyn Candy, flute.
September will bring a bevy of beauties to stage when Christine Juarez choreographs more than 20 senior level dancers to an original ballet score, “The Black Gloves,” composed by guitarist, David O’Suna. In October, dynamic operatic duo Andrew and Jennifer Krikawa, accompanied by pianist, Evan Stults, will present arias, Broadway music and more. Finally, in October, a multi-media double bill of spoken word, music and humor when Susan McCabe reads from her collection of original works, Hot Flashes, Cold Showers. Performing the same evening, Patrick McManus will share his humorous travelogue as Einstein.
Tickets for all performances available through Blue Heron Art Center and Heron’s Nest. Call 463.5131 to reserve by phone.
