Krikawas bring Opera to Blue Heron

Island opera aficionados are in for a treat when Vashon’s opera duo Jennifer and Andrew Krikawa bring scenes from American operas to the Blue Heron stage. Directed by the venerable Elizabeth Ripley, pieces will include: Menotti’s Amelia Goes to the Ball; Barber’s Antony and Cleopatra; and Richard Wargo’s comic one-act, The Music Shop. The program showcases the accessibility of these English-language works with character, emotion, wit and beautiful singing. The Krikawas will be joined by Marita Erickson and Joe Farmer, accompanied by pianist Evan Stults. Megan Armezzani will provide lighting design; Lillian Ripley will design costumes and set; and Danielle Horn will be costume mistress and photographer.

The Krikawas, relative newcomers to Vashon, hail from the East Coast. Jennifer, Connecticut native, has sung for numerous opera companies including New York City Opera, Virginia Opera, Connecticut Opera, Sarasota Opera and many others. Her most performed roles include: Fiordiligi (Cosi fan tutte), Mimi (La Boheme), Musetta (La Boheme), Micaela (Carmen), Gretel (Hansel Und Gretel) and Pamina (Die Zauberflote) among many more. She appeared at Carnegie Hall as the soprano soloist for Scarlatti’s Dixit Dominus, Vaughan Willieam’s Benedicite, and Poulenc’s Gloria. She earned her Masters degree from Boston’s New England Conservatory of Music. Her awards include First Place NATS winner, Metropolitan Opera National Council Regional Finalist in Boston and Metropolitan Opera National Council Honorable Mention in Connecticut. She recorded a CD entitled Songs of Walt Whitman composed by Malcolm Peyton with Centaur Records. Jennifer has been a soloist with Vashon Island Chorale for the past several years.

While based in New York, Andrew Krikawa (Baritone) sang for numerous companies including New York City Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Virginia Opera, Cedar Rapids Opera, Opera Festival of New Jersey, Nashville Opera, Annapolis Opera and more.. Andrew’s most performed roles include Marcello (La Bohème), Sharpless (Madame Butterfly), Germont (La Traviata) Albert (Werther) and others. His career highlights include appearances with Pittsburgh Opera as Albert in Werther opposite Jerry Hadley in title role and performances of Cosí fan tutte with the world renowned Orchestra of St. Luke’s. Andrew is a Sullivan Foundation award winner and recipient of the Richard F. Gold Career Grant. He holds a Masters degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.
